At the 2003 South Carolina Broadcaster's Association convention at Hilton Head, WCRE 1420 AM was named South Carolina Radio Station of the Year. WCRE was named as one of two finalists, along with WTCB-FM in Columbia, on June 18,2003. Stations were judged by out of state broadcast professionals on news, public service, air sound, community involvement and overall excellence in broadcasting.
